Switzer 6 Wheel Set

6 wheel set of Switzer GTR wheels

Nissan’s R35 GTR is reasonably quick from the factory. A few years ago, however, we all thought the GTR was - you know, fast! The team at Switzer Performance have a lot to do with that particular paradigm shift. The Oberlin, Ohio-based tuning house has redefined the idea of what a “fast” Nissan is, with their 1000 hp “Ultimate Street Edition” daily drivers and record-setting, 8-second R1K-X hypercars. Now, Switzer wants to redefine something else: a set of wheels. According to Switzer, there are 6 wheels in a set.

Cars usually have 4 wheels on them (this shouldn’t be news). Many owners of high-end performance cars, however, take their cars to drag strips - where a set of specialty drag radials can significantly improve traction. Better traction makes hard launches easier, lowers the car’s times, and makes the experience that much more enjoyable for the car’s owner. “That’s the goal,” offers Tym Switzer. “We want our customers to have the best experience possible every time they drive their car. It shouldn’t matter whether they’re driving it on a city street or a racetrack, we shouldn’t have to make any excuses for the car. That’s why we came up with the 6 wheel set.”

It’s a scene that almost everyone that’s been to a drag strip race has seen. Someone drives up in a hot car with gorgeous wheels … in the front. At the back? “Usually people run their stock wheels, or else wide steel wheels,” explains Tym. “It totally ruins the look of the car.”

Each of the wheels Switzer’s 6 wheel set of Signature Series performance rims is forged from a single piece of 6061-T6 aluminum, making them incredibly strong for their light weight. The 4 “street” wheels are 20-inchers. The 2 “track” wheels look just like the 20-inchers, but are actually smaller. At just 18-inches in diameter (and a touch wider), the track wheels are meant to be shod with extra-sticky tires to deliver that last bit of performance and enjoyment without sacrificing the custom “look” of the car. Those extra tenths, then, are just a few bolts away - and the customer won’t have to make excuses for their mismatched set of wheels.
